"Rites", a concert by the vocal ensemble Anima
Anima is a vocal ensemble led by Guillaume Labois that brings together the voices of professional and amateur singers, born of a shared desire to share a demanding, contrasting repertoire that illustrates the many movements of the soul.
Founded in 2021, Anima explores the repertoires of the 20th and 21st centuries, seeking to forge links between the songs and the places in which they will be performed.
RITES
Rites turns the Ensemble's routine on its head.
From baroque aesthetics to contemporary atmospheres, this original programme offers a journey through cultures and traditions. By exploring the diverse vocality of the Lithuanian, Finnish, English and French languages, Rites also invites us to immerse ourselves in different styles of music (dances, harvest songs, ritual music, traditional folk music, sacred music, etc.) and writing (canons, double choirs, minimalism, free improvised forms, etc.).
The eclectic repertoire chosen for this new show offers a fresh exploration of timbres and sonorities (nasality, diphonic singing, sound effects, drones, breath, guttural sounds, play on harmonies and registers, body percussion, musical glasses, etc.).
Rites will be fully staged and spatialised to offer audiences a unique, hypnotic experience, a vibrant, danceable, intoxicating show.
This event is part of the Autun Biennial, an international festival of contemporary sacred art.
